Dinner and Community Conversation: Credit Unions & the Solidarity Economy. Thursday 10.12.23 @ 6-8pm Community forge, 1256 Franklin, Wilkinsburg. Join us for dinner and a presentation from Dr. Jessica Gordon Nembhard, author of Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought, followed by a panel discussion with local leaders in the cooperative movement, including Hannah Dobbs from the PinUp Posters Courier Collective, Raqueeb Bey from Black Urban Gardeners, and LaKeisha Wolf from the Ujamaa Collective.

Celebrate and imagine with us!

The East End Food Co-op Federal Credit Union has persisted and grown for 30 years! As a small, low-income community credit union—an increasingly rare institution—this is cause for celebration and also visioning for what possibilities the next 10 (or 30!) years will hold. Credit Unions, like all cooperatives, are a community effort, and we want you in the conversation. Please RSVP by Tuesday, October 10th!

Please also RSVP for our 30th Annual Meeting, which will be held on Sunday, October 29th from 2-4pm at the Food Co-op's  Power Conference Room -- 7516 Meade Street (Accessible entrance by Pivot physical therapy).

Who can attend?

Everyone is welcome to this event. If you want to learn more about credit unions and the broader cooperative movement, this is for you!

What is the event format?

We will serve dinner at 6:00pm, and the presentation and discussion will go from 6:30pm until 8:00pm.

Dr. Gordon Nembhard is traveling for her research and will be joining remotely, so she will give a presentation on credit unions and their relationship with the broader cooperative movement (commonly called the Solidarity Economy). She will be projected live during the event and will have a conversation with a set of leaders from the local cooperative movement who will be live with us in the room.

Is it really free?

Yes, if you RSVP in advance (by October 10th) so we can plan on you, we will have a buffet style dinner and aim to accommodate as many dietary restrictions as we can.
